i would like more soundcloud rapper yoongi x idol y/n please it’s so cute
v-live alert! -myg
Tumblr media
pairing: idol! y/n x soundcloud rapper! yoongi
wc; 2.9k
a/n: lots of you asked, and so you shall receive. ps, i wrote this really rushed but i kinda love it. lmk what you think, love you guys <3
[V LIVE] Surprise LIVE!
the v-live notification. or, more accurately, the sound of war. alternatively, you dance around your studio on a livestream and yoongi has a mental breakdown.
masterlist  PREV
“i miss you too!“ you say, replying to one of the first comments that pop up on the live.
you probably should’ve showered before going live... and you probably should’ve changed out of sweats.
whatever.
it’s not like your fans haven’t seen this before.
half of your pre-debut pictures are just downright disgusting.
the number of viewers on the top of your phone begins to climb up to the thousands, increasing every half a second.
it always amazes you how many people show up to your lives. sometimes you wonder if your fans genuinely have nothing better to do. how do they always show up so fast?
the comments begin to flood with greetings and exclamations of ‘oh my god i’m so early!11!1’ and the multicoloured heart pop up on your screen, building up an impressive stream of likes.
“where am i?“ you read through the comments and look around, as if you forgot where you were. “in the studio.“ you grin when the comments flood with questions asking if dreamcloud is getting new music.
you can’t answer, of course, but it’s fun to see. you squint at your phone, which is propped on an elaborate setup that you spent the past twenty minutes preparing.
(three books on one eyeshadow palette and a selfie stick gingerly placed on a small stool)
((you pray to every deity out there that it won’t fall))
“i was just bored,“ you shrug, speaking to the screen. “so i decided to come on here and talk to you guys. how have you been?“ you ask.
hundreds of comments answer.
“i’m alright“
“i’m good!“
most of them contain some form of sappy declaration like ‘my day is much better now that you’re here!’ it makes you smile. how cute.
the v-live notification.
or, more accurately, the sound of war.
that cursed, terrible ding! haunts yoongi’s darkest and most terrifying nightmares. the sheer amount of panic that rushes through his veins when he hears that godforsaken noise, god.
the number of lives he’s missed- yoongi can’t even bear to think about it.
so maybe it was a blessing in disguise that yoongi put his phone on do not disturb so he didn’t have to hear that disgusting sound. instead, he found out the news via a gorilla’s screech.
“Y/N’S LIVE RIGHT NOW STARTED FOURTY SECONDS AGO HURRY UP YOONGI GET YOUR ASS UP AND STOP STUDYI-“ jimin yells from his room down the hall.
yoongi almost falls out of his chair scrambling to get to his phone. it’s not like he was really studying anyways- more like using his pencils to tap out a cool-sounding beat on his desk out of boredom.
watching your live > passing his music theory class.
priorities.
with shaky hands, he grabs at his phone, slumping onto the floor and he sees the familiar blue icon with the notification popped up on the screen.
[V LIVE] Surprise LIVE! Y/N: let’s chat <3
an unnatural squeak that slightly resembles the sound a mouse slips out of yoongi’s mouth.
even when he was a baby starrie and was glued to his phone at all times, he’s never been this early to a live. he unlocks his phone, cursing his momentary clumsiness. he clicks into the live, smiling when your beaming face blasts up on his screen.
you haven’t gone live in so long- it’s nice to see your face again.
“- how have you been?“
“good.“ yoongi types out in the comment box, mumbling the words as he’s typing. “way better now that you’re live.“ sometimes yoongi cringes at himself when he types these things. i mean, who could possibly guess that min yoongi, resident scary-emo-couldslapyouintheface bad boy socially un-responsible simped over a k-pop idol?
he can already see his reputation go down the drain.
he also wonders what it says about himself that he’s a 20-something college student who’s life practically revolves around you, an idol who’s just about a year younger than him.
but dreamcloud is a part of his identity now. he identifies as a starrie no matter what. you know how the old saying goes-
once you stan, you can’t unstan. or something like that, he’s honestly not sure.
you tuck your head onto your hand, diligently trying to keep up with all the comment. with a gasp, you nod at something. “oh, you’re right, user yoonalova98!” - that’s another thing special about you. whenever you read out comments, you also read out the username of whoever wrote it.
you explained in one interview- that it’s cooler to give credit and talk to your fans as if you’re just chatting as friend. saying the username feels like you’re saying their names.
what kind of lucky fan would get their comment read aloud by Y/N?
ugh.
yoongi blinks when he remembers that technically, he’s sort of part of this group of elite, recognised fans.
his twitter stan account got almost five thousand more followers after Y/N replied to his selca. the post itself has tons and tons of likes and retweets.
insane, that Y/N- Y/N herself- knows of his existence. Y/N- the love of his life, has seen his FACE. she commented three HEART emojis below a selfie that he took.
if he thinks about it too much, he’ll start feeling faint again.
“our anniversary is coming up soon! i can’t believe it’s been three years already. time does pass by when you’re having fun.“ you say. yoongi thinks that it’s rather ironic that you would forget your anniversary, when yoongi’s had a calendar countdown to January 14th since the beginning of september.
“ahh,“ you say, leaning in closer to the screen. “from user lialiarach, ‘did you watch jisoo unnie’s acting debut’ - i did! we all watched it and cheered her on during the premiere!“
jisoo’s new drama is good. it’s a fantasy-horror blend, and he, jimin, namjoon and jin finished all 16 episodes in two days when streaming hit Netflix.
your head tilts and you smile. “song recommendations?” you wonder aloud, and yoongi scrambles to get a pen and notepad out. you don’t do ‘y/n’s listening parties’ as much anymore, but your taste in music is impeccable and he collects all the songs in a playlist.
it’s called ‘wedding tunes’ (jimin named it, not him, yoongi swears)
everytime he tries to change it back, it somehow switches back to wedding tunes the next day.
it’s disturbing how good jimin is at this kind of stuff. hopefully yoongi won’t have to bail him out of jail one day.
“okay!“ you say, pulling your laptop open. you hum as you scroll through some page that yoongi can’t see- and he anxiously waits for the first song to be played with twitchy hands and a strong grip on his pen.
the first bar plays out and yoongi’s already in love.
“this is,“ you say over the music, double checking just to make sure. “don’t need your love by NCT...“ you squint. god knows there are too many NCT members. “dream! NCT dream featuring HRVY.“
“NCT dream...“ yoongi mumbles to himself, writing the song down on the notepad.
“you know,“ you say over the music, spinning in your chair and nodding to the beat. “i’ve only met the NCT guys a couple times at music shows and such but they’re all so nice. i can’t remember all their names, but i’m decently familiar with their faces. how do they even have 23 members? how does it all work??“
you dance around the studio, singing along nonsensical lyrics that don’t make sense but sort of fit the rhythm of the song (??)
“don’t need your loo-ooove-!!! dum dum duhhhh duhros noya!!!” yoongi stifles a laugh. there’s a reason why you constantly forget lyrics on stage.
which is quite ironic, actually, because half the time you’re forgetting the lyrics to a song you wrote yourself.
afterwards, you play all the hidden gems- and yoongi’s proud to say he’s familiar with quite a few of them.
airplane by j-hope (a youtube star turned successful rapper-vocalist-dancer)
sweet night by v (the internet’s resident eye-candy)
and then you continue to scroll through your laptop, biting your lip and murmuring quietly to yourself. you glance once back at your phone screen.
okay, listen.
yoongi knows that he’s delusional, okay?
but everytime you look straight in the screen it’s almost like you’re looking directly at the camera it’s almost like you’re staring into his soul. which makes zero sense, but it still makes his heart skip a beat.
let him dream, please
“what am i scrolling through?“ you say, reciting a question from the chat. “soundcloud, user chachachae.“
soundcloud?
oh.
that’s pretty cool.
he didn’t know you had a soundcloud account!
you usually post all your covers and random shorts to instagram or another one of your personal blogs.
for a moment, yoongi indulges himself by wondering if you’d ever listened to his music. his soundcloud account is linked in his twitter bio, after all...
but he shakes those thoughts away as fast as they came. he doesn’t need to entertain himself with such silly thoughts.
“ooh, this one’s good!“ you say, clicking onto something.
still with you by JAYKAY (pffftt haihdkahjd) starts playing and you lean back, humming along. yoongi knows this one too!! now he’s 3 for 3!! he and you do share a similar taste in music, so maybe it does make sense.
even though you’re actually main vocalist and lead dancer, you do listen to a lot of rap music. but the music you make is nothing like the old school hip hop tracks that yoongi is partial to.
the music you make- how can he explain it?
sweet like honey with a little bit of tang.
like barbecue honey!!!!
ok that was a bad analogy.
all of his favourite dreamcloud tracks are written by you- cloud nine, up in the sky, are u still here, quicksand- the list goes on and on and on.
it’s like listening to your voice solves anything he goes against. bad day? dreamcloud. something to celebrate? blast your debut song. in need of a party song? easy fix. he gets aux cord rights? (granted, this doesn’t happen very often, since seokjin insists that his music taste is superior to his friends.) but anyways, y/n can fix it.
listening to your voice feels comforting. it invokes something in him that he honestly cannot explain with words. you’re his inspiration. not just in music- but in life. he admires how you’re able to smile through anything, how you take responsibility for your own actions.
he admires your kind heart, which offers generosity and forgiveness to even the most underserving people.
he admires your passion, for music, for your members, for the smallest things. he admires how you’ll love everyone and anyone.
even though he’s never really met you, he feels like he knows you. he wishes he could, anyways. he wants to thank the person who’s gotten him through such bad days.
yoongi curses himself again for being so delusional.
he keeps telling himself that he can’t get so attached. then he’ll end up like one of those creepy fans who are convinced their idols actually like them.
blech.
“okay, next song!“ you exclaim cheerfully. “i really like this one, guys. he’s this soundcloud star. he makes really cool music.“ yoongi readies his pen. if this person really is a soundcloud star, then there’s a high chance yoongi knows of him. a smaller chance that he actually knows the guy personally; either online or from real life.
you press the space bar almost obnoxiously, like you’re about to reveal something grand. you look into the camera, and you lock eyes with yoongi- through that cursed, horrible screen.
the first note plays and yoongi thinks that it sounds... oddly familiar, actually. for a moment, he sighs in disappointment. this one doesn’t sound as great as the previous few songs. almost like it’s incomplete, imperfect. something about it bugs him at the very bottom of his gut.
jimin figures it out before he does.
“AHHHHHHHHH YOONGI!!! OH MY GOD-!!!! YOONGI ARE YOU SEEING THIS? YOONGI!! HYUNG!“ yoongi grumbles, wondering what the hell jimin is screeching about now.
“oh, for fuck’s sake,“ he mumbles. the difference between him and jimin is the way they express their emotions. while yoongi bottles it all up, choosing to deal with things alone and slump around, jimin has no other choice but to scream things out. it’s a wonder they’re such good friends, really. “what is it now?“ yoongi mutters to himself.
“yeah yeah, a gentle breeze- “ and then it hits him. all at once.
“holy fucking shit.“ he whispers to himself, slumping down on the floor. he can barely hear what you say next.
“this song is called people by agust d. he goes by the name suga on social media-!“ yoongi falls down, gasping for air. “i’m a fan,“ you remark casually. “mr. suga producer-nim!! i’m your fan! please continue to make good music!“ you chuckle. “what am i doing right now? he probably isn’t even watching.“ you stare innocently at the phone camera, as if you don’t even know that you’re changing someone’s life right now.
out of his peripheral vision, he can see jimin rushing into the room, crouching next to him and placing a hand on his back, murmuring something yoongi can’t hear through the sound of his sobs.
huh. when did he even start crying?
“he makes rap and really cool hip hop music. you guys should give him a listen. his lyrics are really meaningful, too.“ you nod along, reciting the lyrics word for word- even though you really can’t rap.
“what kind of person am I? am I a good person? or a bad person? many of ways to judge just a person. everyone will live on, everyone will love, everyone will fade away“ you headbang along to the beat.
yoongi slides down the wall inch by inch. he wonders if he’ll faint or vomit first.
other people seem to make fun of people like him- people who find solace in idols, in music. that’s partially why he doesn’t like disclosing the fact that he’s a diehard fan of an idol girl group.
but in hindsight, that’s so stupid. who gives two fucks about his interests? hell, yoongi’s been depressed half his life. and if a group of girls who sing songs and perform make him feel better, what’s so wrong with that?
jimin’s voice is a little clearer now, and so is yours. you’re singing along to the lyrics- the lyrics that he wrote. the lyrics that he spent hours agonising over, wondering whether his shortcomings and anxiety in his life were worth posting on the internet for his measly following to see.
wondering if the music he made had any impact at all, if one day he might see his dream come true, to see his music being played in public. wondering if anyone might hear his songs and think that it helped them get over a bad day. just like you have for him.
yoongi’s sobs wrack through his body, tears flowing freely on his face. he’s crying hard. ugly crying, like a baby throwing a temper tantrum. his cries echo through the room. if he could see himself right now...
well, he doesn’t want to think about it. he’s sure it’s not a pretty view.
jimin looks over him, smiling proudly. his eyes are glassy, and he tucks yoongi’s head in his chest, putting his arms around him and embracing him.
yoongi’s shoulders shake. if it was any other day, he would usher jimin out the room. he hates it when people see him being vulnerable. even his own family hasn’t seen him cry that much.
but right now, he can’t bring himself to do anything but cry. other people may ask why this is such a big deal, why someone emotionally constipated like min yoongi would cry like this for such a small matter.
this, he doesn’t know how to explain either.
all he can think about is how much it means to him. that someone he admires so much is now, in turn, saying his music- no, his life- is good. nothing much else. but just knowing that you’ve listened to his work, that you know of his alter ego’s name...
his crying sounds grow larger.
jimin pets at his hair. “shh,” he murmurs. “it’s okay.” jimin’s voice also grows a little shaky. he tears up, but continues to comfort the crying boy in his arms. “you did it, hyung. it’s okay. you made it. you did it. why are you crying? this is good news! this is so great! i’m proud of you, we’re all so proud of you.”
yoongi tries to speak; it doesn’t go very well. but when he tries again, he manages to choke something out.
“i did it.“ he says, before burying his face back into jimin’s hug. the two boys sit on the ground, crying together. an hour passes, then two.
slowly, yoongi drifts off to bed on the ground, the melody of his own song blended with sound of your voice echoing in his head.
my ordinary became your special, my special became your ordinary. so what? what if you just brush by? what if you get hurt? sometimes you might get hurt again, sometimes you might shed tears. so what? so what if you live like that?

yyh rewatch number 11 WHAT ARE YOU DOING TO MY KIDS NOW
been a few days bc I am BUSY AF irl, and I made it through the dr ichigaki fight--just barely without tears--by watching with a friend. now we’re at episode 35 and watch straight through to 42, and I can’t help but blog about it because HELLOOOO, NINJA BABES
guess who’s here
it’s jin and TOUYA BITCHES
kurama recognizes them, I wonder if he's actually fought them before
I remember that hiei and kuwabara both get taken out of the fight, but can’t recall if genkai does as well
what I figured out when my friend asked why koenma knows genkai’s younger face is that since she was on a mostly human team in the past, she was probably one of the special guests at the tournament? and thus a member of a team koenma technically owned
it’s upsetting that toguro didn’t seem to recognize his EX GIRLFRIEND.
jin speaks so quickly I can hardly understand him
it’s like merida in the new wreck it ralph trailer, just.. irish
ps JERRY FUCKING JEWELL again, for those keeping track
I’m gonna go ahead and mark yusuke and jin down as a ship now before I lose control
also, jin and touya
ship count: 8/400
I should really make a list of whose’ who in that count lol
oh yeah, here’s the medical exam, I remember it
her hair is gorgeous I would marry him if she asked
WOW she doesn’t even take kuwabara just genkai and hiei
a barrier master
and she’s just
oh man she took her coat off and I melted
STOP ELECTROCUTING MY KID BABE
epilepsy warning for this whole arc
koenma you’re a jerk
jin decides to fuck off because he doesn’t like fixed fights, bless him, he’s a terrible shinobi
demon makeup cool. not cool? the FUCKING RACIST image in the back during the explanation. I SAW that feathered headdress, togashi!!
kurama isn’t BOTHERING to attack because he’s observing
and hiei tells us why kurama is going to be fucked
jin is so done with this subterfuge bullshit
the audience is eating this up and touya speaks at last, my love, my darling, my short spiky blue beautiful man
I would kill to be able to put on makeup that perfectly, that easily
I know how kurama finishes this fight, but my friend can’t remember. I love it, this is so good.
“with his hair??” she asks, shocked
“only an amateur depends on arms and legs for victory”--kurama, with a whip coming out of his hair
“How is he controlling that?”
“With his spirit energy?”
isn’t there more behind why this guy is trying os hard? they’re not being blackmailed are they
oh.
there’s more, the patterns--
fuuuuck
and of COURSE his reiki is sealed, and as long as he’s standing--goddamn
wait
touya fights an immobilized kurama?
I don’t remember that!!!! son of a BITCH
“how will yusuke’s shattered team survive” asks the narrator. “This is bad” says yusuke
this is not good
I hate that kurama seemed to observe that gama’s paint was made of blood but didn’t like. pay attention to it?
friend just punned: “Touya is a cool dude”
I’m screaming she hates puns
one of the black black club just asked sakya why he is sharing “Ass space” with demons. fucking. what.
why does the committee want yusuke so dead, when they invted him? I guess that’s the whole REASON they invited him, ugh.
genkai tries to be optimistic for the first time in this series, and kiei shuts her down immediately
ohhhh the shinobi just need attention so they keep getting jobs
koto freezes to death, it’s very sad
touya somehow thinks a theif can’t keep running.. and seems to be right
“running like a baby is perfectly brave if the odds are uneven enough”--Koenma’s words of wisdom
such an inspiring leader the spirit world has
doesn’t he smudge the seal withhis own blood HEY he does
I am remembering these things seconds before it comes into play
touya’s attacks are honestly amazing
koto is a bit twisted
kurama plants something in himself, and then that’s what holds him immobile for the next guy right?? the big one yusuke kills
why doesn’t touya know who he is??? I thought, if they called him a traitor, we could ASSUME they knoew who kurama was??
why was touya blishin’?
the ICE SWORD man oh man one of my old old old old mary sues had that attack
oh yeah there it is, the arm wound, he plants it in that
“son of a frickin bitch”--yusuke urameshi
Koenma: Why do I get the feeling our most intelligent fighter is about to do something incredibly stupid?
Kurama: Let me do what I must... *does something stupid*
touya decides they’re friends now, so he wants to kill kurama painlessly
is
is touya fucking DEAD
oh good he’s alive
but also it’s not good
oh but okay kurama won
three more then
I know kurama vs. bakken is terrible
kurama also thinks they’re friends
faint heartbeat
amazing
ah, bakken
I hate him
“a fighter standing in the ring cannot be removed agains this will. as will cannot be determined...”
hatred
hiei is ready to go to war for his man
how is that motherfucker even a shinobi
yikes that last shot of the ep is absolutely awful
yusuke promises the audience that of he goes, it will be with a bang. I remember more of a whimper when sensui kills him.
who is that last guy on team masho? I remember bakken, and it’s clearly jin, but the third one, I can’t remember
BAKKEN JUST BITCH SLAPPED KOTO
yusuke is my BOY
I love him
this “kill the traitor” count is just. horrible
kuwabara is STILL out for the count
kick his ass baby boy
yusuke is my hero
why is uh. bakken sweating so much
mist made from his own uh. sweat. that’s pretty nasty
yusuke: I hate saunas.
I don’t remember this fight taking even this long???
yusuke has such great eyelashes
boy is already so like. pumped to fight jin.
yusuke just used eighth grade science”you can get on your hands an knees and start begging.and maybe, just maybe, I’ll listen.”--yusuke urameshi
KILL HIM YUSUKE
he’s ready to commmit murder and it’s amazing
jin didn’t even flinch
“That’s a pretty good fight”
kurama’s gorgeous and also awake
he’s making plant jokes and I hate it
I STILL DONT REMEMBER THIS RISHO BITCH
look how great these kids are.
I DID remember about ruka’s barrier thing healing hiei
no way jin can’t fight first if he does how does yusuke fight him SECOND????
“If I win my whole team’s screwed and if I lose I have to fight again.”
jin is amazing. seriously. also, can these boys get married please?
you know I’m a multi shipper right
well that was a fun match, sad it’s over
jin is just
such a happy guy I love it
they call them brothers but really the chu thing is much closer to that
“ass space” bbc guy now claims to pull the tournament committee by his the “ass hairs”
so quick!!
kuwabara seems insistent on the fact that he is “spiritually aware” in situations where he lacks that talent to actually observe
yusuke lands exactly one punch and jin floats up to let the impact wear off
“Hey, I needed that!” says yusuke when his spirit gun is deflected by jins wind
jin thinks he’s very funny
he’s right
why is boan lashing out at kuwabara, when she’s supposed to be TREATING HIM
somehow Jin with his irish accent--or rather, Jerry fucking jewell  with his irish accent--isn’t triggering at all lmao. maybe because this is how I prefer him
yusuke’s hero eyes, at it again
how many reigun shots does yusuke have left?
jin’s so good at fights I love him so much
“something always comes ot me at the end” say yusuke about his battle stretegy
hiei
genkai, sarcastic: you truly havbe a way with women, hiei
JIN IS HUMMING LOVE HIM
yusuke plans to try the spirit wave, somehow forgetting his shotgun move???
shizuru once again knows exactly what’s up
bless the kuwabara family sixth sense
it’s so weird how genkai is speaking in third person
have I mentioned how much I love Jin’s eyes?
yusuke call shimself a freak because he enjoys fighting
okay we’re back to who the fuck risho is???
if jin’s the official captain---
oh my god I just screamed when risho revealed himself and dropped my laptop holy shit
like a gut punching, throat-tearing godawful scream.
“IT’S YOU!!!”
oh my god I don’t reember anyting about him other than earth and rocks and how much I HATE HIM
does he fight kuwabara? yukina just showed up trying to get in to see the tournament, does she heal kuwabara for this fight?
touya comes up. does risho attack him? that would explain why I hate him
yusuke defends koto, who he doesn’t like
hiei
i love
these two children are so angry
lkjlkjdasdflkjsadfkhjsdfasdf;lkjsadf
shizuru finds yukina and recognizes her from watchign that video, bless her
girls helpin’ girls
kuwabara was never technically ruled ineligible to fight, and I hate life
ginger son, don’t do it
he is so goddamn fucking helplessly sacrificial
yukina, go inside and heal your goddamn boyfriend
yukina is looking for her brother, oh SHOCK
shizuru intimadates an entire crowd of demons
her legs oh my god
just wait kuwbara, your girl with healing powers will be there soon
kuwabara is doing his best
keiko gets hit on by a bouncer and murders him
shizuru once again takes out a demon
can kuwabara shizuru marry kino makoto please???
risho is a dick
koto is clearly a sado-masochist
hiei GET OUT OF THERE
ruka is just like. a fetish indulgence of the artists. I know she’s hot but how long are they going to draw this out?
koto: I’m goign to take the ocunt now, so everybody make sure to tell me how I’m doing it wrong, okay?
savage
START the DOUNT KOTO, he’s OUT of the ring
shizuru WRECK THEM
oh yukina has ptsd flashbacks when she runs into toguro
sakyo lets shizuru escape bless her
kuwabara prepares to sacrifice his ENTIRE FUCKING LIFE and becomes telpathic?? bless
kuwabara can’t imagine what to say to yusuke, who means so much to him, goddamnit
yukina is in the stadium, babies
YOU’VE GOT TO BELIIIIIIIIIIIIEVE IN THE POWER OF LOOOOVE
IT GIVE MEANING TO EACH MOMENT
IT’S WHAT OUR HEARTS ARE ALL MADE OF (just look inside)
oh my god
amazing
“That’s my girlfriend!”--Kuwabara Kazuma, aged fourteen
yusuke is astounded by his boy
koto isn’t counting either of them
SPIRIT SWORD
GET IN THE RING
damn kuwabara
I can’t beleive he did it that’ s an highly unlikely triumph
hiei
“She’s... really here.”
Kuwabara bonds with yukina while keikpo and keiko FINALLY talk
KILL HIM BABY GIRL
pls get married
t;dr I would marry shizuru in a heartbeat if I didn’t know she was meant for sailor jupiter

We live in a world that is full of blessings. Especially if you live in this nation. We live in a nation with stores that have whole aisles dedicated to pet supplies. Whole departments of nothing but fishing equipment. We carry phones in our back pockets that can Facetime friends across the world and look up movie stars birthdays. We click a button on our laptop and the next day an order is sitting on our porch.
Yet we are all tempted to discontentment. To grumbling and complaining. There’s something in our nature that always wants more. “I want it all, I want it all, I want it all, and I want it now!” “Gimme, gimme, gimme, I need, I need, I need!” A couple summers ago, one evening our power went down for a few hours. I said to my wife, “What am I going to do? I can’t watch TV. I can’t get on my computer.” And some of you may remember my story of how years ago my wife won a cruise, and after we’d eaten like kings for a week, the last night as I was wolfing down shrimp I said, “You know, I think these shrimp would be better if they were a little smaller.” Then suddenly I was convicted. “What has happened to me? I’m complaining because the shrimp are too big!”
Why are we so discontented and how can we grow in contentment and joy? It is God’s will that his people find contentment in him, and I believe it is possible with God’s grace to do that.
The first step in pursuing contentment is to understand the roots of our discontentment. Where does it come from?
Our Fallen Hearts
Sheol and Abaddon are never satisfied, and never satisfied are the eyes of man. Proverbs 27:20
For all that is in the world—the desires of the flesh and the desires of the eyes and pride of life—is not from the Father but is from the world. 1 John 2:16
Beloved, I urge you as sojourners and exiles to abstain from the passions of the flesh, which wage war against your soul. 1 Peter 2:11
When Jesus saves us, he gives us new hearts. He puts his Spirit within us, who gives us new desires. But our old heart,, our fallen nature, is still with us. It is no longer our dominant nature, we are no longer slaves to sin, but our old nature, still seeks to exert its desires. Our fallen nature will never be satisfied, no matter how much we sow to it. This is why we must put to death our sinful desires with God’s help.
The Lies of the enemy and the world
Satan doesn’t need all kinds of new techniques for temptation. He still uses the same ones he used on Eve.
1Now the serpent was more crafty than any other beast of the field that the LORD God had made. He said to the woman, “Did God actually say, ‘You shall not eat of any tree in the garden’?” And the woman said to the serpent, “We may eat of the fruit of the trees in the garden, but God said, ‘You shall not eat of the fruit of the tree that is in the midst of the garden, neither shall you touch it, lest you die.’” But the serpent said to the woman, “You will not surely die. For God knows that when you eat of it your eyes will be opened, and you will be like God, knowing good and evil.” So when the woman saw that the tree was good for food, and that it was a delight to the eyes, and that the tree was to be desired to make one wise, she took of its fruit and ate, and she also gave some to her husband who was with her, and he ate. Genesis 3:1-6
First Satan lies about God’s word: “You will not surely die. For God knows that when you eat of it your eyes will be opened, and you will be like God, knowing good and evil.”
Then Eve looks at the fruit and sees how delightful and desirable it appears. “So when the woman saw that the tree was good for food, and that it was a delight to the eyes, and that the tree was to be desired to make one wise, she took of its fruit and ate”
Here is what Satan, the world and our deceitful hearts will tell us: If I only had THIS, THEN I’d be happy. If I just had a new car. If I just had a bigger house. If I just had a girlfriend…then I’d be content. That’s how Satan and our fallen hearts speak to us. And our eyes don’t help us. We drive through a rich neighborhood and look at the homes and think, I wish I had THAT house. That would be so nice…
So often our eyes lead us into temptation. Our eyes can lead us into lust and other sinful desires.
The world tells us it will satisfy us.
He who loves money will not be satisfied with money, nor he who loves wealth with his income; this also is vanity. ECCL 5.10
But the cares of the world and the deceitfulness of riches and the desires for other things enter in and choke the word, and it proves unfruitful. MK 4.19
If Satan cannot keep us from being saved, he wants to keep us from finding joy and contentment in Christ. He wants us to look to the world.
Marriages get in trouble when one or both partners look for a “soul mate” – someone who can fulfill their every need.  Someone who needs no maintenance on our part. Someone who will love us unconditionally and encourage us and not expect us to change.  The Bible nowhere says that our wife or husband is our soul mate. Jesus is our only soul mate. He alone can fulfill our every true need.  He loves us unconditionally. He does expect us to change he transforms us into his own likeness. He alone can satisfy us. No human being can satisfy another human being.
Don’t look to your children to satisfy you.  Don’t look to a career to satisfy you. Don’t think If only I could do THAT, or if only I had THAT, or if only I had a husband like THAT, then I’d be happy.
The second step to finding contentment is to pursue the true and only source of Contentment: Jesus
The LORD is my chosen portion and my cup; you hold my lot. The lines have fallen for me in pleasant places; indeed, I have a beautiful inheritance. PS 16.5-6
“”The Lord is my portion,” says my soul, “therefore I will hope in him.” The Lord is good to those who wait for him, to the soul who seeks him. It is good that one should wait quietly for the salvation of the Lord.” Lamentations? ?3:24-26?
When Scripture says the Lord is our chosen portion and our beautiful inheritance, it means that Jesus is the only one who satisfies and fulfills us. No human being can satisfy us – our wife or our husband can’t satisfy us. No thing can satisfy us – a house, a car, the perfect job, riches, wealth, cruises, shrimp…nothing but Jesus Christ himself can fulfill us and satisfy us. But God is the fountain of all delights and when we pursue our joy in him we will find it.
Who satisfies you with good so that your youth is renewed like the eagle’s. PS 103.5
You make known to me the path of life; in your presence there is fullness of joy; at your right hand are pleasures forevermore. PS 16.11
Delight yourself in the Lord, and he will give you the desires of your heart. PS 37.4
Keep your life free from love of money, and be content with what you have, for he has said, “I will never leave you nor forsake you.” HEB 13.5
So how can we learn to be content?
First, Practice Thankfulness
Consider the spiritual blessings you have received, consider the material blessings…thank God for as much as you can.
Enter his gates with thanksgiving, and his courts with praise! Give thanks to him; bless his name! Psalm 100:4
One way I have tried to “enter his gates with thanksgiving” is to use a journal. Most days, as part of my devotional time with the Lord, before I bring my requests to God, I take a few minutes to write one page of things I am thankful for. I start most pages with something like, “Lord God, thank you for… then I may write blessings from the day before. I try to thank God for our family, for our provision, for the gift of sleep and God’s protection. I may thank him for spiritual blessings, like my salvation and forgiveness of my sins. I don’t labor over it. I can thank him for something as simple as having lunch with a friend, or going fishing with my granddaughter. I just want to cultivate thankfulness.
As much as I can I try to be thankful throughout the day. I try to thank God for as much as I can.
Second, guard your heart:
Let not your heart envy sinners, but continue in the fear of the LORD all the day. Surely there is a future, and your hope will not be cut off. Proverbs 23:17-18
Watch over your heart with all diligence, For from it flow the springs of life. Proverbs 4:23 (NASB)
I know my heart can be tempted to envy sinners. So I have to guard it. I have to guard against thinking if I just had THAT it would satisfy me.
Third, keep your eyes on Jesus. Look to him to satisfy you.
But whoever drinks of the water that I will give him will never be thirsty again. The water that I will give him will become in him a spring of water welling up to eternal life.” JN 4.14
Let us fix our eyes on Jesus, the author and perfecter of our faith, who for the joy set before Him endured the cross, scorning its shame, and sat down at the right hand of the throne of God. Hebrews 12:2 (Berean Study Bible)
The way to run this race with endurance is to keep looking to Jesus. Remember, Eve got in trouble by looking at the fruit, which looked so delicious and delightful. But God tells us to keep looking to Jesus. To fix our eyes on him.
Joseph Alleine said:
“Have you taken God for your happiness? Where does the desire of your heart lie? What is the source of your greatest satisfaction?… If God would give you your choice, as he did to Solomon, what would you ask? Go into the garden of pleasure, and gather all the fragrant flowers there; would these satisfy you? Go to the treasures of mammon, and to the trophies of honour; would any of these, would all of these satisfy you and make you to consider yourself happy?”
If God is our source of happiness, then nothing can take our happiness from us.  For nothing can separate us from the love of God in Christ Jesus. If we look to anything else in this world to satisfy us, eventually we will be disappointed, for nothing in this world lasts.
In Jeremiah 2:13 God says,
“My people have committed two evils: they have forsaken me, the fountain of living waters, and hewed out cisterns for themselves, broken cisterns that can hold no water.”
God is the fountain of living waters.  He alone can satisfy our deepest needs.  Any other wells we attempt to dig to satisfy our thirst will leak and leave us thirsty.
John Flavel said:
Surely if [God] would not spare his own Son one stroke, one tear, one groan, one sigh, one circumstance of misery, it can never be imagined that ever he should, after this, deny or withhold from his people, for whose sakes all this was suffered, any mercies, any comforts, any privilege, spiritual or temporal, which is good for them.” (In The Greener Grass Conspiracy by Stephen Altrogge)
The best question we can ask ourselves when we’re feeling discontented or despondent is “What am I believing about God right now?” Do I believe God is in control?  Do I believe he is infinitely good? Do I believe he is infinitely wise? Do I believe he cares about me? Or do I believe that somehow God has forgotten about me. Or that maybe he is not really good and loving.
Jeremiah 32:40 says: I will make with them an everlasting covenant, that I will not turn away from doing good to them. And I will put the fear of me in their hearts, that they may not turn from me.
Fourth, keep fighting the good fight to be content in Jesus
We must continually fight to believe this: God will never turn away from doing good to us. He never gives his children anything but what is good for us. He causes ALL things to work together for our good. No good thing does he withhold from his children. I regularly remind myself of God’s promise in Psalm 27:13-14:
I believe that I shall look upon the goodness of the LORD in the land of the living! Wait for the LORD; be strong, and let your heart take courage; wait for the LORD!
If God withholds anything from us it is for our good.  If he allows us to go through anything it is for our good.  And we must always remember our greatest good is knowing and loving him and being conformed to Christ. If our suffering drives us to deeper pursuit of God and we cling more closely to him, that is wonderful. If our affliction humbles us and makes us more merciful to others, that is a good thing.
In heaven we’ll look at all that God did in our lives that we didn’t understand at the time and it will all make sense to us. In heaven we’ll praise and thank God for our momentary light afflictions, for we’ll see the eternal weight of glory they produced.  In heaven we’ll say, “Jesus, thank you for all you did in me through that trial.”
If we will praise God in heaven for all the good he did through our trials, shouldn’t we praise him in faith now?
Fifth, remember that growing in contentment is a lifelong process.
…I have learned in whatever situation I am to be content. I know how to be brought low, and I know how to abound. In any and every circumstance, I have learned the secret of facing plenty and hunger, abundance and need. I can do all things through him who strengthens me (Php 4.11-13)
Paul says he learned to be content in every situation. He learned how to be content when he was “brought low.” He even had to learn to be content when he would “abound.” We think we will automatically be content in abundance, but our deceitful hearts will crave for more if we aren’t careful. We can’t imagine being content when we are “brought low,” when we lack this world’s blessings, or when we suffer. But when we look to Jesus, we can do all things because he strengthens us. We can be content through Christ.
How about you? Has God helped you grow in contentment? What practices has he given you that help you be content in him?

(1050)1st KINGS 3:1-15 this is a prophetic chapter, Solomon goes to Gibeon to offer on ‘the great altar’. What is the great altar? There is a remote verse [somewhere in the Old Testament- I didn’t look it up] that says Moses tabernacle is located at Gibeon. How it got there we don’t know, but the picture is important. The tabernacle of Moses represents the Old Covenant [law], during David’s rule the Ark of the covenant that was stolen, David retrieves it and places it at Jerusalem [the tent that he puts it under is called the Tabernacle of David- a type of the new covenant people who have free access to God, no more veil!] So Solomon more than likely sacrificed at Gibeon [picturing the Old Covenant] and then has the famous dream where God appears to him and he asks for wisdom. This dream’ can be a type of death. Jesus referred to death as ‘sleeping’ Paul too. So after ‘the dream’ [death] he goes to Jerusalem and is at the place of the Ark [a type of Gods presence, it was not in Moses tabernacle, but under the tent that David set up] and eventually the remnants of Moses tabernacle [at Gibeon] will be joined to the Ark [at Jerusalem] and there will be ‘one new temple’ [Ephesians speaks of the 2 becoming one in Christ, both Jew and Gentile]. So under Solomon’s rule [a type of Christ] we have the joining of the Old Covenant people of God along with the Gentile church. Jesus did not forsake his ‘people that he foreknew’ [Romans] but thru his death he took away the ‘law of commandments contained in ordinances and nailed them to his Cross’ [Colossians, Ephesians] thus removing the enmity and making in himself ‘one new man’. Solomon was definitely prophetic! [see 2nd Samuel study, chapter 7- entry 923]
(1051) 1st KINGS 3: 16-28 Now to the famous story. Two women [harlots] come to Solomon with a problem. They both had children within a few days of each other, and one night one of the babies died. The other woman woke up and had the dead baby with her, but after she looked at it she realized it wasn’t hers. The real mother of the dead child did a swap at night. So as they are pleading their case to the king, they both claim that the living child is theirs. So Solomon calls for a sword, they bring him the sword and he tells his men ‘take the baby and divide it in two, give half to each mom’ sounds fair enough. Of course the real mom says ‘no, don’t divide it. Give the baby to her’ and the fake mom says ‘no, divide it!’ Ahh! Got ya. Solomon says ‘give the child to the one who did not want to divide it, the child belongs to her’. A few things, it just so happened that the last book we studied was Ecclesiastes, I didn’t plan it like that, it just ‘happened’. Ecclesiastes was written by Solomon. One of the verses I didn’t cover says Solomon wrote on all types of subjects and put together three thousand proverbs. Proverbs are short, concise bits/nuggets of wisdom that get the point across in a nutshell. While there are times when you need to read large volumes and stuff, yet wisdom allows you to cover a lot of content in a little space. In this case Solomon used his wisdom to quickly come to a conclusion that could not be refuted; Jesus did stuff like this with his parables. Notice also that after the judgment was made, there really was no ‘if, ands or buts’ about it. He was right and that settled it. I still have old preacher friends who can’t discern the most basic stuff. Now, I don’t want to be mean or condescending, but there comes a time where things are right or wrong. Many years ago I taught how leaders were making a serious mistake when they grasped on to the prosperity interpretation of Jesus parable of the sower [read the chapter ‘twisting the parable of the sower’ in the book ‘house of prayer or den of thieves’ on this site]. Basically many preachers, good men, were going around and teaching that Jesus was speaking about getting a huge harvest of cash. In the parable Jesus says one of the things that hinders the full harvest is ‘the deceitfulness of riches’, so I taught how Jesus was not saying ‘the deceitfulness of riches is holding back the cash’. Now, this is really elementary stuff, but some preachers still can’t discern this, after 20years! There comes a time when Solomon [Jesus] sends a judgment forth, and we ultimately become responsible for what we do with it. In this case, one of the ladies was right the other wrong. Solomon plainly told us who was telling the truth. [note- the other day as I was flipping channels, I stopped at a ‘prophetic’ brother who I haven’t watched in a while. In the past he has had some good words that were right on. But I felt that too many ‘prophecies’ were going forth on a yearly basis that were not really accomplishing anything ‘this year is the year of increase, Rebuke the demon of poverty’ stuff that was being repeated over and over hundreds of times, and yet the word of God was not being taught. Well on the program I tuned in on, the brother was saying how all the media complaints about Sarah Palin’s expensive wardrobe were ridiculous [I agree] but then he said that it was nothing but a ‘spirit of poverty’ that needed to be rebuked. Are there ‘spirits/demons of poverty’ no. At least we see no cases of Jesus casting out spirits of poverty in scripture. There comes a time when preachers/media outlets need to return to a sober message of the Cross. I believe in prophecy and miracles and have experienced many of these types of things over the years, but we need to stop being silly with some of this stuff.
[parts] VERSES- 1Kings 3:1 And Solomon made affinity with Pharaoh king of Egypt, and took Pharaoh’s daughter, and brought her into the city of David, until he had made an end of building his own house, and the house of the LORD, and the wall of Jerusalem round about. 1Kings 3:2 Only the people sacrificed in high places, because there was no house built unto the name of the LORD, until those days. 1Kings 3:3 And Solomon loved the LORD, walking in the statutes of David his father: only he sacrificed and burnt incense in high places. 1Kings 3:4 And the king went to Gibeon to sacrifice there; for that was the great high place: a thousand burnt offerings did Solomon offer upon that altar. 1Kings 3:5 In Gibeon the LORD appeared to Solomon in a dream by night: and God said, Ask what I shall give thee. 1Kings 3:6 And Solomon said, Thou hast shewed unto thy servant David my father great mercy, according as he walked before thee in truth, and in righteousness, and in uprightness of heart with thee; and thou hast kept for him this great kindness, that thou hast given him a son to sit on his throne, as it is this day. 1Kings 3:7 And now, O LORD my God, thou hast made thy servant king instead of David my father: and I am but a little child: I know not how to go out or come in. 1Kings 3:8 And thy servant is in the midst of thy people which thou hast chosen, a great people, that cannot be numbered nor counted for multitude. 1Kings 3:9 Give therefore thy servant an understanding heart to judge thy people, that I may discern between good and bad: for who is able to judge this thy so great a people? 1Kings 3:10 And the speech pleased the LORD, that Solomon had asked this thing. 1Kings 3:11 And God said unto him, Because thou hast asked this thing, and hast not asked for thyself long life; neither hast asked riches for thyself, nor hast asked the life of thine enemies; but hast asked for thyself understanding to discern judgment; 1Kings 3:12 Behold, I have done according to thy words: lo, I have given thee a wise and an understanding heart; so that there was none like thee before thee, neither after thee shall any arise like unto thee. 1Kings 3:13 And I have also given thee that which thou hast not asked, both riches, and honour: so that there shall not be any among the kings like unto thee all thy days. 1Kings 3:14 And if thou wilt walk in my ways, to keep my statutes and my commandments, as thy father David did walk, then I will lengthen thy days. 1Kings 3:15 And Solomon awoke; and, behold, it was a dream. And he came to Jerusalem, and stood before the ark of the covenant of the LORD, and offered up burnt offerings, and offered peace offerings, and made a feast to all his servants. 1Kings 3:16 Then came there two women, that were harlots, unto the king, and stood before him. 1Kings 3:17 And the one woman said, O my lord, I and this woman dwell in one house; and I was delivered of a child with her in the house. 1Kings 3:18 And it came to pass the third day after that I was delivered, that this woman was delivered also: and we were together; there was no stranger with us in the house, save we two in the house. 1Kings 3:19 And this woman’s child died in the night; because she overlaid it. 1Kings 3:20 And she arose at midnight, and took my son from beside me, while thine handmaid slept, and laid it in her bosom, and laid her dead child in my bosom. 1Kings 3:21 And when I rose in the morning to give my child suck, behold, it was dead: but when I had considered it in the morning, behold, it was not my son, which I did bear. 1Kings 3:22 And the other woman said, Nay; but the living is my son, and the dead is thy son. And this said, No; but the dead is thy son, and the living is my son. Thus they spake before the king. 1Kings 3:23 Then said the king, The one saith, This is my son that liveth, and thy son is the dead: and the other saith, Nay; but thy son is the dead, and my son is the living. 1Kings 3:24 And the king said, Bring me a sword. And they brought a sword before the king. 1Kings 3:25 And the king said, Divide the living child in two, and give half to the one, and half to the other. 1Kings 3:26 Then spake the woman whose the living child was unto the king, for her bowels yearned upon her son, and she said, O my lord, give her the living child, and in no wise slay it. But the other said, Let it be neither mine nor thine, but divide it. 1Kings 3:27 Then the king answered and said, Give her the living child, and in no wise slay it: she is the mother thereof. 1Kings 3:28 And all Israel heard of the judgment which the king had judged; and they feared the king: for they saw that the wisdom of God was in him, to do judgment. ________________________________________ Luke 16:9 And I say unto you, Make to yourselves friends of the mammon of unrighteousness; that, when ye fail, they may receive you into everlasting habitations. This ‘dream’ can be a type of death.
Now, I don't want to be mean or condescending, but there comes a time where things are right or wrong. Well on the program I tuned in on, the brother was saying how all the media complaints about Sarah Palin's expensive wardrobe were ridiculous [I agree] but then he said that it was nothing but a ‘spirit of poverty’ that needed to be rebuked.
